Talented mods figured out how to play the equally violent and controversial Mortal Kombat II within DOOM’s engine, crafted an entirely new FPS campaign centered around Age Of Empires 2, and have even replaced DOOM’s cast of nightmarish demons with a legion of zombies seemingly pulled from a survival horror title like Resident Evil. In addition to players running DOOM on practically any screen-based electronic device one could think of, a lot of these DOOM mods feature some sort of crossover with another noteworthy game series.
The original DOOM and its 1994 sequel both served as some of the pioneering titles for the PC modding community, and new user-based alterations of these classic shooters are still frequently posted on forums and designated websites to this day. Link may be the traditional hero of Hyrule in The Legend Of Zelda series, but a new DOOM IImod switches him out for Doomguy in a surprisingly colorful FPS adventure.
